Education for the visually impaired (specialisation in vision) as an in-depth specialisation as part of the special education teaching degree programme
The degree programme in Education for the Visually Impaired (focus on vision) as an in-depth specialisation within the teacher training programme for special needs education comprises a total of 270 ECTS credits and is studied over a standard period of study of 9 semesters. 115 ECTS credits are allocated to general topics from the educational sciences and didactics of primary and secondary schools, including the corresponding internships. The primary special education subjects comprise 90 ECTS credits in the degree programme as an in-depth specialisation (major subject) and 30 ECTS credits in the qualification programme (minor subject). The remaining 35 ECTS are divided into 6 ECTS for special education internships, 10 ECTS for the written assignment (final thesis), which is written in the specialisation and 19 ECTS for a wide range of electives.
The in-depth study programme focuses on the living conditions of people with blindness, visual impairment or multiple visual impairments in theory and practice. The programme develops the pedagogical and didactic approaches and concepts in the school and extracurricular fields of action that are relevant in the context of education for the visually impaired. It also deals with approaches and concepts that can be used to break down environmental and attitudinal barriers and that aim to create a culture of learning and living together.
