The Chair of Special Education for People with Emotional and Behavioural Disorders Participates in the School Project on Global Learning
In the context of an increasing globalisation global learning is an elementary basis for successful and harmonious coexistence in many areas of life in our society. In the syllabus 'plus' the education for 'sustainable development (environmental education, global learning)' is firmly established in the framework of overall educational objectives.
This is where the project 'Future with Class - Changing the World together in a challenge for schools in Unterfranken' comes in. The project was initiated by Katharina Lang (a world promoter Unterfranken) and Judith Aßländer (German Leprosy and TB Relief Association). They networked educational actors of global learning from a wide variety of fields throughout Unterfranken in July 2020 for the first time and were able to recruit some of them for the project.
Objective of the challenge is to make global learning in schools interactive and activity-oriented, to make it experienceable and to use the various and existing knowledge of the educational actors of global learning in Unterfranken at the same time. In the framework of this project participating school classes can work together to gain the 'Class with Future'-award.
The Chair of Special Education V - Special Education for People with Emotional and Behavioural Disorders - under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Roland Stein is also participating in the context of the GSiKI-Special Education-subproject in this project. On the part of the Chair, Miriam Lohrmann developed three opportunities in order to mediate various aspects of global learning:
1. Global playing - intercultural communication
By means of the method 'global playing', students are to be demonstrated 'challenges of communication' and possibilities of communication, consequently they have to develop and implement activity strategies.
2. Die große Wörterfabrik – (non-verbal) intercultural communication (with and without picture books)
The book 'Die große Wörterfabrik' provides in this educational opportunity the basis for consciously dealing with the topic of communication and the resulting difficulties and chances.
3. Die Bewohner der Insel Albatros
The role play 'Die Bewohner der Insel Albatros' aims to make the students aware of their 'cultural glasses' and to sensitize them for hasty judgements and values, prejudices, stereo types and their own cultural background.
How does participation in 'Future with Class' work?
There are two criteria for successful participation in the challenge: Teacher and class together choose one of the external educational opportunities at the beginning of the project (please see: zukunft-mit-klasse.de), then they get in contact with the educational actors mentioned and agree on a date for the implementation of the offer. After that the class and the teacher implement an own, self-selected project at their school. As soon as all necessary criteria are met, the teacher fills in the certification form and sends it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Finally, a date for handing over the certificate has to be arranged.
What are the entry conditions?
There are educational opportunities for special schools, primary schools, schools of secondary level I and II as well as vocational schools. All classes in Unterfranken can participate. Criteria for the successful certification as 'Klasse mit Zukunft' (class with future) are the utilization of a unit of external educational actors and the subsequent implementation of an own project.
What about the time scale?
The project will start in 2021, the date to be announced.
